More Republican-led states will ban abortions this week as ‘trigger laws’ go into effect
Several Republican-led states will ban nearly all abortions this week as their so-called trigger laws go into effect in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. Some of the laws will also increase penalties for those accused of performing the procedure.
Such laws in Idaho, Tennessee and Texas went into effect Thursday, while an abortion ban in North Dakota is set to go into effect Friday.

Abortion access crumbles: 4 more states enact new restrictions this week
The erosion of abortion access in the United States accelerated this week with four more state trigger laws taking effect — in Idaho, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas.
While three of those states had significant restrictions on the procedure already in place, the new laws carry narrower exemptions and harsher criminal penalties, all but eliminating abortion in broad swaths of the U.S.

Abortion to be put further out of reach for millions of women as slate of ‘trigger bans’ take effect
For about 10.1 million women of reproductive age (15-49) in these five states, access to abortion will be impacted by these laws, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy organization focused on sexual and reproductive health that supports abortion rights. With these laws in place, nearly one-third of US states will have restrictions or a near-total ban on abortion, according to abortion rights groups.
