Both parties have sought greater political influence over the courts\u2014in 2021, Illinois Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2021\/05\/25\/democrats-want-to-redraw-illinois-supreme-court-districts-for-first-time-in-almost-60-years-in-effort-to-maintain-majority\/\">pushed through<\/a> a first-in-decades redistricting plan for Supreme Court races after a Democratic justice lost a retention election.
