When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/14\/business\/media\/10-year-old-girl-ohio-rape.html\">a 10-year-old rape victim in Ohio<\/a> must travel across state lines to have an abortion, that is a testament to Trump\u2019s legacy. At least ostensibly. It was in reality a thin veil of pseudo-federalism and a poor disguise for the true goal of outlawing abortions. Trump has now embraced that as a fallback position, but it placates no one and is strongly held only insofar as it serves his electoral ambitions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Remember: Trump must win to avoid prison. He didn\u2019t rule out <a href=\"https:\/\/19thnews.org\/2024\/01\/trump-abortion-restrictions\/\">restricting abortion through executive power<\/a>, an approach top conservative groups have been studying for months. This avenue has been their primary focus, rather than action in Congress. In virtually every state where abortion rights have been put on the ballot, Republicans have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/abortion-wins-big-kentucky-ohio-virginia-2023-elections-1234872518\/\">handily defeated<\/a>.
