Last week, Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted to advance Rep. Chip Roy’s (R-TX) FACE Repeal Act, which would repeal “provisions of federal criminal law that prohibit conduct intended to injure, intimidate, or interfere with persons who are seeking to (1) obtain or provide reproductive health services, or (2) exercise their right of religious freedom at a place of religious worship.”

Deadly shootings in Minnesota have shaken abortion providers
Suspected shooter Vance Boelter had lists of targets that included other elected officials and abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood affiliates and employees, multiple outlets reported. Boelter had also previously spoken out against abortion, per multiple statements surfaced by news outlets.

Instead, some scholars who focus on the far right and anti-abortion violence say it may be more insightful to examine Boelter’s religious background and views on abortion. Among the evidence that investigators are examining are notebooks belonging to Boelter containing detailed notes on dozens of other presumed targets that included Democratic public officials and abortion rights supporters. Scholars say it is reasonable to consider the rampage in Minnesota within the well-established pattern of anti-abortion violence that has taken place over many decades in the U.S., and its ties to conservative Evangelical Christian movements.
