Glenn Youngkin thinks he has a Republican response to Democrats’ abortion attacks

The Virginia GOP is trying to flip the script on an issue that has dogged Republicans for a year and a half. So far, Republicans have been doing their best to not talk about it. But now Youngkin is going after Democrats as extremists who don’t support any restrictions. Republicans, the new campaign says, are the reasonable ones who back a ban after 15 weeks with exceptions for cases of rape, incest and life of the mother.

Glenn Youngkin united Virginia Republicans around a 15-week abortion ban. Some have pushed to go further.

Take, for example, John Stirrup, a Republican candidate in a competitive state House district in Northern Virginia, who has said that he supports a “total ban” on abortion and that he felt Youngkin’s 15-week ban was a “starting point,” according to a recording of him May published this summer by The Washington Post.
