Organizers encouraged protesters to don kangaroo costumes in a denunciation of what they view as bogus legal claims before a highly ideological judge known for his anti-abortion views. Jaime Cruz, 23, heeded the call, arriving in costume and with a gavel in hand. “What’s going on in there is unconstitutional, so we’re showing the circus that’s going on inside, outside,” he said.

Access to abortion pill in the balance as Texas judge hears mifepristone case
Women’s March organizers planned to hold a mock trial outside the courthouse, reading aloud statements that the Trump-appointed judge has previously made about women, immigration and abortion. “We’re going to make sure that folks understand exactly what kind of person is running this kangaroo court inside and the ways in which he has actually made very clear that he is not an impartial jurist, but in fact, a politician who is trying to legislate from the bench,” she said.

Long-used US abortion pill under threat in Texas lawsuit
Lawyers for the group Alliance Defending Freedom asked Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk during the hearing in Amarillo, Texas, to issue an immediate order that would revoke or suspend the drug mifepristone’s approval. Such a step would be an unprecedented challenge to the FDA, which approved mifepristone in combination with a second pill as a safe and effective method for ending pregnancy in 2000.
